Fleming's Left-Hand Rule and Right-Hand Rule

Fleming's Left & Right Hand Rule

This law was introduced by John Ambrose Fleming. With the help of this law, we can easily determine the direction of the moving conductor, the direction of the magnetic field and the direction of the current in the motor or generator.

Fleming's Left-Hand Rule

The direction of the force acting on a current carrying conductor placed in a magnetic field can be easily determined from Fleming's left-hand law. According to this law, if the left hand is opened in such a way that the thumb, the first (index) finger and the second (middle) finger make a right angle (90 degrees) to each other, So the first finger indicates the direction of the magnetic field, the second finger indicates the direction of the current flowing through the conductor, and the thumb indicates the direction of the force or movement of the conductor. As shown in the figure.
Remember that all electric motors work on the same principle.

Fleming's Right-Hand Rule

According to this law, if the right hand is opened in such a way that the thumb, the first (index) finger and the second (middle) finger make a right angle (90 degrees) to each other, then the thumb will point to the direction of movement of the conductor, the first finger to the magnetic field direction and the second finger indicates the direction of the EMF or current generated. As shown in the figure.
Remember that all generators work on the same principle.
